Sometimes the things you want to say to her sound better in your head. She stares at you like you just condoned the holocaust. She holds her breath. You’re already holding yours. Your chest is burning for an answer, but afraid to be deflated. If you can concentrate hard enough, maybe you can put the words in her mouth: “That sounds perfect”.
